Shortcake is one of the most versatile, kind, gentle and truly special horses we have ever owned. Every single event or job we have done on her she has excelled at. I started her on the barrels and she was amazing and so easy to train. She will go as fast or as slow as you’d like, she is very honest and easy to ride, she stays quiet, and she is smooth and correct in her turns. We then we started to head steers on her and she was equally amazing, quiet in the box, scores great, runs to the cow and rates. We began heeling on her and she was just as excellent at that. She can really stop and is strong. I don’t know that I’ve ridden one that is such a true all-around horse that doesn’t just do the jobs, she’s very, very good at them all. She has gathered tons of cows, dragged calves to the fire, sorted, and she has been doctored on. For a young mare she is very mature. She does not get fresh with time off, she stays gentle and quiet, always. She has excellent feet and bone, and she is the perfect size for anyone and all jobs. Shortcake is a perfectly built mare and is absolutely a candidate to breed in the future. If our daughter was older, Shortcake would stay with us and be her all around horse.
